A bride's guide to hair extensions: when and how to wear them?

All a bride needs to know about hair extensions for a wedding hairdo

Your hairstyle can be a key element to a jaw dropping bridal look. Yet not everyone is gifted with thick or long hair.
In this case, can hair extensions REALLY make a change?

Why would you use hair extensions?

If your inspiration board looks something like this image - there is a high chance you will need hair extensions or padding. It's just the reality of Pinterest - most popular images representing "Beautiful Bridal Hairstyles" are made to create the WOW effect and rarely are realistic to achieve without additional help. Also, a lot of popular bridal hairstyles on Pinterest are made on doll heads rather than real hair.

So just look to your bridal moodboard - does it look more or less like this?

Keep reading if the answer is YES.

What do hair extensions do?

In most of my cases, we use clip-in hair extensions to give thickness and volume. For example, when I do the most popular hairstyle ever - the half-up, half-down, I need to use a decent amount of hair for the upper part (twists or braids). So if you have thin hair, there will be not so much hair left for the down part. Then you can see some not-so-flattering gaps. Also, with more hair, you can have juicier braids or twists.

The second reason, clearly, is length.

The third, and the least obvious task of hair extensions is to strengthen your bridal hairstyle.

What do I mean by this?

Imagine a wedding hairstyle as your home. Without a strong base, we can not expect to have a strong house.

If you want to decorate your head with a hairpiece and veil, imagine how much extra weight there is for hair to hold. In this case, hair extensions help to create that strong base, which will guarantee your hairstyle is not left destroyed once the veil is taken off.

Good quality real hair hair extensions can make your waves last longer.
If your hair is dead straight naturally, you might want to seriously consider blending in some of the clip-ins

  1. They have to be of natural hair;

  2. They should match your hair length or be a bit longer (your stylist can always trim ends where needed);

  3. They should match your hair color or be a bit lighter in case you want to achieve a sunkissed hair effect (consult your hairstylist about that).

Do hair extensions look natural?

Absolutely - when placed and styled properly.
